Originaltitel:	(Vorderseite): 16. Sihlwald, Zurich, Switzerland, Aug. 17, 1912. View in a stand 109 years old. Final cutting will be made next winter. Almost pure beech. A few spruce, larch and fir. Trees up to 22 in. in diameter and 120 ft. high. On the average 80% of the wood from the Sihlwald goes into fuel. In this stand in the foreground 2 cuttings have already been made. The full period of regeneration in the past has been ten years, but is now extended to from 15 - 20 yrs. Usually the old is removed in 3 cuttings at from 5 - 8 years interwals. 30% is taken out the first cutting 30% the second, and the remainder in the final cutting. Spruce and conifers introduced in patches after the second cutting or in some instances after final cutting. These are set in groups at the rate of about 6000 per hectare. They are only set in places having poor natural regeneration. In all these patches over from 1/4 to 1/3 of the total area. The beech old piles in the middle distance now being taken to wood sheds. Slope at right in middle distance shows area over which final cuttings were made 5 - 10 years ago and in which larch and spruce was introduced in groups after the second cutting. Regeneration excellent of fir, beech and ash. High forest in distance 100 years old. Firts of the final cuttings ill be made next winter.
